Freddy Renken, President & CEO of Sea Fox Boats, was born and raised in Charleston, SC. While much of his career has been devoted to the boat industry, his path there wasn't a straight line — Freddy was a star athlete who played both basketball and football in high school. He was an All-American high school football standout and went on to play on scholarship at the University of North Carolina as a wide receiver. Freddy has also been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan since he was a little kid when they won their first Super Bowl. He still enjoys watching their games with his friends and family today. Boating of course was another part of his childhood that became a quick obsession and has continued to be his hobby through adult life. Freddy said that his favorite part of growing up with his family in the boating industry was having demo boats every summer and never going without a boat he can jump in! When asked about what was different about adult life than he may have imagined as a child, Freddy said, “Adults take everything in life so seriously. I try to challenge this norm as an adult and to laugh and have fun as much as possible. This is part of the reason I enjoy building boats. We are helping families and friends escape the stresses of the day to day and enjoy time in nature with their loved ones.”
Family Life
Freddy attributes the man he is today to the influence his father, mother, and children have had on him. Like many parents, becoming a father changed Freddy and his focus in life. Becoming a father made Freddy realize how unique and cool it really was to have a family business. Having his daughters added a fuel to his fire when it came to making sure Sea Fox was successful. When asked what the best part of a Sea Fox boat is, Freddy replied, “The lineage. There is a lot to say for having almost 70 years of experience in my family and with my partners. In that period of time you truly have seen it all and can make more educated decisions on how to build the boats and run the business. The experience and passion that comes from that is unmatched and translates directly into better boats.”

A Legacy of Giving Back
Beyond his success in the boating industry, Freddy Renken is deeply committed to giving back to causes that strengthen health, education, and community. He is a proud supporter of Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins, two of the nation's leading institutions in medical research and patient care. Closer to home, Freddy is also a dedicated donor to First Tee of Charleston, which uses golf to build character and life skills in young people, and Porter-Gaud School, where he funded the creation of the Renken Outdoor Fitness Facility. His support of Porter-Gaud carries personal meaning — Freddy played both football and basketball during his time at the school and his daughters attended and played sports there as well. This passion for athletics also drives his continued support of the College of Charleston basketball program today. His commitment to community extends to his faith as well — Freddy is a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, where the Renken family has worshipped for over 100 years, and, following in his father's footsteps, he served as President of the Church Council for several years. Freddy's generosity across these organizations speaks to a life guided not only by business success, but by a genuine commitment to community.
